Dear Campus Community,
In an effort to modernize the University of California’s effort reporting systems, UC Merced has partnered with the UC Office of the President to begin planning for the retirement of the Effort Reporting System (ERS) and for the parallel launch of the new Employee Compensation Compliance (ECC) system. This initiative will result in a more streamlined effort reporting experience for our Principal Investigators and Central Office staff.
What Principal Investigators need to know:
-
The Spring 2026 effort reporting period will be the last reporting period managed in ERS.
-
The Summer 2026 effort reporting period will be the first reporting period in ECC and will begin accepting effort certifications in September 2026.
-
ECC system training and other reference material will be made available in late Summer 2026
More information will be shared in the coming weeks regarding the timeline to complete certifications of outstanding effort reports prior to the scheduled ERS sunset date. It is critical that all Principal Investigators complete their certification of outstanding effort reports as soon as possible. Once ERS is sunset, Principal Investigators will no longer have the ability to certify any effort reports in ERS. You may view the list of uncertified effort reports here and are encouraged to reference the quick start guide for certifiers for guidance on completing the certification process in ERS.
Please direct any questions about the ERS retirement initiative to the Project Portfolio Management team via e-mail at PPFM@ucmerced.edu.
Sincerely,
Devan Hinojosa
Director, Project Portfolio Financial Management
